What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical technique dating back over 3000 years. It involves inserting very thin metallic needles (sometimes in conjunction with electrical stimulation) at specific points on the body surface. The insertion of these needles influences the body’s systems by stimulating blood flow, the release of endorphins and the peripheral nervous system, among other effects. In Acupuncture Qi is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians. When yin and yang are in harmony, chi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy. When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction of Qi along one or more meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine has identified some 365 specific acupuncture points where needles are to be inserted for specific beneficial results.

Does it Hurt?

The extreme thinness of the needles ensures that the discomfort experienced during the treatment will be kept to a minimum. It is often referred to as Painless Needling.
